OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- The Flying Queens of Wayland Baptist had upset on their minds for the first 16 minutes of their game Saturday afternoon against top-ranked Oklahoma City University, but the Stars put together an 18-2 run over an eight minute span and went on to win 70-54.

Freshman Emily Williams gave the WBU women a six point lead with 4:12 left in the first period.    OCU scored 11 of the next 13 points, though, to close the half on top, 23-20.

The Stars put in the first seven points of the second period to extend their advantage, but the Queens got the next six points, four from junior post Maty Diallo, to close the gap to four.  A minute later, Angeleigh Davis hit a lay-up to make it 32-28 with 15:35 remaining, but that was as close as Wayland could get.

Senior Alex Williams led WBU 13 points and Diallo added 12.  Erika Raymond contributed 10 points, and had a team-high six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

OCU's Lauren Gober was the game's leading scorer with 19 points.

Wayland, which hit 4-of-12 three-point attempts, shot 40 percent from the field.  The Queens were 14 of 20 (70 percent) from the free throw line.

The host team made 43 percent of their shots from the field, including 40 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arch.  The Stars sank 16 of their 19 attempts from the charity stripe.

Oklahoma City, which improved to 15-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play, had a narrow advantage on the boards, 32-30, but the two teams were even with 20 points in the paint each.  WBU committed 25 turnovers in the game which OCU converted into 18 points.  The Queens turned 20 Star miscues into just nine points.

Wayland (5-10, 3-6) return home for four straight SAC games beginning Thursday night against John Brown University.
