Two wins at the Lady Chap Classic in Lubbock kept the Pioneer volleyball team's 2009 season record unblemished at 6-0. WBU took three-set victories over both Concordia University of Nebraska (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) and Howard Payne University (25-18, 25-14, 25-18) on Friday.
Against Concordia, the Pioneers were led by the one-two punch of middle hitters Jennifer Wyatt, who had eight kills and two blocks, and Audrey Hemminger who put down six kills on her ten attempts without an error. On the outside, Kimberli Harger had seven kills and 12 digs, while Desiree Luevano and Sabrina Davis got credit for five kills each.
Luevano had a team-high 16 digs and three service aces. Harger added 12 digs, and Staci Wilt contributed nine. Anika Voigt handed out 30 assists.
The WBU netters took care of the Yellow Jackets from Howard Payne in a match that lasted just over one hour. Davis led the Pioneers with seven kills. Senior Analicia Estrada put down six kills without committing an error, while Voigt, Haley Hill and Wyatt got credit for five kills each.
Wilt led the defensive charge with 14 digs, while Voigt picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 11 digs and 31 assists. The junior from Germany also paired with Wyatt for two block assists each.
Sophomore Alissa Mittchell picked up three service aces and seven digs.
The Pioneers finally get a chance to play in front of the home crowd with a match at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Hutcherson Center against Texas Wesleyan University.
