Austin, Tex.---The Pioneers got two more notches in the win column on Saturday with an 11-5 nine inning victory and a 12-1 run-rule win over Mount Mercy College at Austin's Downes Field.

The opener went to extra innings, thanks to a huge three-run blast by WBU left fielder Tyler Berg in the top of the sixth.  With two runners on and two outs and the Pioneers trailing 5-2, the junior from Phoenix launched a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left center to tie the score at five.

WBU pitcher Marcus Limon, working in relief of starter Todd Jeffress, shut the Mustangs down in the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Limon helped his own cause with a lead off single through the left side of the infield to lead off the ninth. Eddie Allen followed with a bunt single, and catcher Oscar Rivera walked to load the bases for the top of the Pioneer order.  A failed pickoff attempt at first scored Allen in what was ultimately the game winning run.  Brett Cook, the WBU lead-off hitter, was then intentionally walked.  Two outs later, Franky Busani hit a two-run double down the right field lane and Jeffress completed the scoring with his third home run of the weekend, a three-run shot that bounced off the top of the fence in left center.

Limon got the decision in the game, pitching the final four innings.  The sophomore from Lubbock struck out 10.  Jeffress, who broke the WBU career strikeout mark with six K's in the game, went five innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits.

Sophomore Trevor Stringer improved his record to 2-0 on the season in the final game of the weekend.  He gave up the one run on five hits while striking out four in the 12-1 five-inning victory.

Cook, Josh Lucas and Jeffress each doubled in the nightcap, while Allen registered four RBI on a three-run triple and a bases loaded walk.

The Pioneers play their home opener on Tuesday with a doubleheader against the University of the Southwest.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
