The Wayland Baptist women's golf team improved their first round score by five strokes to finish in eighth place at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at Coldwater Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Pioneers hit a 309 after Monday's opening round to land in tenth place, but shot a 304 during Tuesday's 18 for a total score of 613. WBU finished five strokes in front of fellow Sooner Athletic Conference member Southern Nazarene who finished ninth.
Sophomore Charlotte Guilleaux finished in a tie for second place with a one-under 143 (73-70). Freshman Nathalia Valencia finished at eight-over 152 (77-75), while Anye Magombe, the only other upper classmen representing Wayland this year, took eight strokes off her first round total to finish +12 (82-74 156).
Newcomers Jennifer Perry (77-86 163) and Krisann Earp (90-85 175) also competed for the Pioneers.
Northern Arizona won the tourney with a four-over 580. It was the fourth straight tournament title this season for NAU. California Baptist and CSU-Monterey Bay tied for second, 14 strokes back. A total of 16 teams participated in this year's field.
