The volleyball teams from Wayland Baptist and John Brown met three times in 2008 and each match went five sets.  A year later the two teams did it again with an exciting five set match won by the visitors from Arkansas, 25-21, 14-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-12.

Three players for WBU reached season highs in the match.  Sophomore libero Staci Wilt recorded 33 digs, junior hitter Desiree Luevano nailed down 15 kills, and Jennifer Wyatt was credited with seven blocks.  As a team, the Pioneers got a season-high eight solo blocks and tied a high mark of 13 total blocks.  On the negative side, the netters also tied a season mark with 29 attack errors.

Sabrina Davis joined Luevano in attack double figures with 12 kills, Kimberli Harger had 11 kills, three blocks and 19 digs, and Anika Voigt had a match-high 46 assists to go along with 10 digs and two blocks.

The beginning and the end of the match cost the WBU netters dearly.  In the opening set, the Pioneers had an attack percentage of .051 and were charged with four ball handling errors, while in the deciding game, they had a negative attack percentage with one more attack error, 6, than kill, 5.  In contrast, all cylinders were working in the second set when they had an attack percentage of .314.

The win keeps the 15-2 Golden Eagles undefeated in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 record, while the Pioneers fall to 13-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

Wayland will attempt to get back on the winning track Saturday when they host Mid-America Christian University (7-11, 1-3) in a match that begins at 2 p.m.
