The Pioneer volleyball team bounced back from Friday night's disappointing loss to John Brown to defeat Mid-America Christian in three sets (25-16, 25-10, 25-9) on Saturday afternoon at Hutcherson Center.
WBU cut down the errors considerably from Friday night. The netters had a season-best .333 attack percentage, nailing down 42 kills with just 12 errors. Kimberli Harger had the big gun with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .400. Anika Voigt had eight, as did Jennifer Wyatt. Voigt was especially impressive, getting points on eight of her 11 attack attempts without an error.
Haley Hill and Voigt each had three service aces, but Alissa Mitchell did the most damage with her serve, holding serve for nine consecutive points early in the third set to give the Pioneers a commanding 12-1 lead.
Voigt and Staci Wilt also held serves for long stretches, both in the second set. Voigt took over with her team leading 5-4 and held on for seven straight points, while Wilt kept the serve from 13-6 to 20-7.
Mitchell had a team-high nine digs on the day with WIlt and Voigt each digging up eight attacks.
Wayland, which is now 14-3 on the year and 2-2 in league play, returns to the road this week with matches on Friday and Saturday in Shawnee, Okla. against St. Gregory's (2-10, 0-4) and Oklahoma Baptist (18-5, 2-2).
