Siloam Springs, Ark.---A three-set sweep by John Brown University on Saturday narrowed the gap between the Pioneer volleyball team and the rest of the pack vying for second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Golden Eagles defeated the Wayland women by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18 to give the Pioneers a conference mark of 7-4 and an overall record of 19-5.

Oklahoma City is also 7-4, while JBU and Oklahoma Baptist, the next SAC opponent on the WBU schedule, are one game back at 6-5.

Jennifer Wyatt and Desiree Luevano were the only Pioneers to hit double figure marks during the match. Wyatt had a team-high 11 kills, while Luevano recorded 13 digs.

On the other side of the scoresheet, the Golden Eagles had two players with 12 kills or more, led by Erin Didier with 17, and three who registered over ten digs.

Wayland's netters combined to score just 35 points, while JBU's players earned 58 points. Both teams had 19 attack errors and the blocks were about even with the home team holding the 5-4 advantage, but John Brown put down 16 more attacks and served up seven aces compared to just one for the Pioneers.

The competition doesn't get any easier for the WBU women as they host NCAA II powerhouse West Texas A&M University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
