The Pioneer Gold team made it three-in-a-row with a 6-2 victory over the Pioneer Blue on Wednesday evening at Wilder Field. Kevin Hennessey and Scott Keane both homered for the Gold and Aaron Pate pitched five strong innings to pick up the win.
Gold shortstop Eddie Allen hit his second triple of the series and Michael Prell went 2-for-4 with a double. Marcus Limon and Russell Daniel also picked up extra base hits.
The Blue team scored in the bottom of the first when Brian Embery hit a lead-off triple and scored on a double steal with Bobby Curtis who was on first after a base hit. Jacob Hinojosa crossed the plate with the Blue team's other run on Embery's sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Calvin Bass got the only other hit for the Blue team, which was held to three hits by Pate. Senior Brett Swett pitched two perfect innings in relief.
Justin Eatherly got the loss for the Blue. The senior from Forney, Tex., pitched four innings before giving way to Todd Weldon. Weldon did not allow a hit in two innings of work and recorded three strikeouts. Freshman Andy Craig retired the Gold team in order in the seventh with two strikeouts.
The series will continue with two more games. Thursday the scheduled start is 6 p.m. and the final contest is set for Friday afternoon at 3:00.
