The Wayland basketball teams complete the first portion of the 2009-10 basketball schedule Saturday afternoon in Alva, Okla. when they face the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The women's game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3.

The Flying Queens 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play and are looking for their fourth straight win after defeating Oklahoma Christian 68-54 Thursday night in Edmond. Staci Murphree had 14 points and Alex Williams registered her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 boards. The sophomore post also blocked four shots.

Wayland is ninth in NAIA assists per game (18.6) and in total blocks (36). Williams moved into 8th place in NAIA blocks with 19 and is tenth in blocks per game (2.4). Jessica Walker is ninth in total assists (44) and tenth in assists per game (5.5).

The Lady Rangers are 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in the SAC after falling 76-57 to Lubbock Christian on Thursday. Newcomer Keindra Scott, a 6-2 senior post who transferred from Cameron University, is the team's scoring leader, averaging 11.5 points. Another newcomer, 6-1 freshman Audrey Richmond, is averaging 11.3 points from the forward position.

The NWOSU women ranked second in total rebounds in the NAIA with 447 and are ninth in offensive rebounds a game (17.5). Junior Claudia Vasquez, an honorable mention All-Conference pick a year ago, is the team leader in rebounds with a 6.2 per game average.

The Queens lead the all-time series 20-3 and have won the last five meetings.

The Pioneers (3-4, 0-2) have dropped four straight after Thursday night's 74-69 loss at Oklahoma Christian. Rishi Kakad had 27 points in the game, including seven three-pointers. As a team, the WBU men shot 61 percent (13-of-21) from the three-point line, but OC got to make 28 trips to the free throw lane, converting 20 of those into points, which provided the difference in the contest.

The Wayland men are ranked second in NAIA three-point shooting (50.4%), fifth in defensive rebounding (27.3/gm), and eighth in field goal percentage (50.9%). Kakad remains among the NAIA leaders in three-point shooting. The senior guard is fifth in three-pointers made (4.1/game) and in shooting percentage (60.4).

Brandon Brown, a 2nd team All-SAC performer from a year ago, leads the Ranger men. The 5-9 senior guard is scoring 18.4 points a game and handing out a team-high 3.3 assists per contest. 6-7 senior forward Brandon Dixon is averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 boards, and freshman Marshall Bell, a 5-11 guard, is contributing another 12 points a game.

The Rangers are 5-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. They have lost both SAC games by a total of five points--- a 102-100 quadruple overtime loss to Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 23 and a 74-71 loss on Thursday night to Lubbock Christian.

Wayland leads the all-times series 15-8. The two teams split the series last year.
