Brett Cook went 3-for-4 with a home run and Todd Jeffress pitched eight strong innings to give the Wayland Baptist Pioneers a 6-2 victory and the series sweep over Culver Stockton College on Sunday afternoon at Wilder Field.

Josh Lucas got the Pioneers on the board first with a two run homer in the first.  Cook made it 3-0 with two out in the second with a homer over the fence in right center.  The senior second baseman would add a run-scoring double in the eighth.

After a scoreless third, the visiting Wildcats made it 3-2 with two runs on four hits in the fourth.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth when the Pioneers, who hit seven home runs in the three-game series, actually manufactured two runs.  Courtney Williams and Brett Sheppard were hit in consecutive at bats with one out.  Michael Prell advanced the runners to third with a sacrifice bunt, and then pinch hitter Bobby Curtis singled both runs in with a hit through the left side of the infield.

Jeffress shut down the visitors from Missouri in his final four innings of work to earn his first win of the season.  The senior from Plainview gave up seven hits in the game, walked one and struck out seven.  Trevor Stringer made his second appearance of the weekend with a scoreless ninth.

The Pioneers are now 13-2 on the season and open Sooner Athletic Conference play on Thursday in Shawnee, Okla. against Oklahoma Baptist University.
