Claremore, Okla.--- A three-game win streak came to an end for the #25 Flying Queens on Thursday evening as they fell to Rogers State University, 61-47, in an important Sooner Athletic Confernence contest.
The 47 points was the lowest point total of the season for the WBU women, who had just reentered the NAIA Top 25 for the first time since the week of Jan. 11th.
The loss moved the Queens (16-10) and Hillcats (19-8) into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings with 11-8 records. Wayland could have moved into a tie for third place with a win after Lubbock Christian's 65-63 loss at John Brown on Thursday.
The Hillcats scored the game's first 10 points and never trailed. Wayland did not score until the 15:05 mark when Jessica Walker converted a turnover into two points. The Queens closed the half with an 8-0 to go into the lockerroom down just 27-20.
A 6-2 WBU run to start the second period narrowed the margin to three at 29-26. Staci Murphree's only two points of the game made it 31-28 with 13:45 on the clock, but that was as close as the Queens were able to get.
Megan Coats had a team-high 14 points for WBU, and Erika Raymond added 11. Shamon Doss had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Alex Williams came up with four steals.
The Queens shot just 31 percent (15-48) for the game and had 23 turnovers, 15 in the first half alone. They edged out the Hillcats on the boards, 34-31, but were outscored in the paint 32-16.
Wayland travels on to Siloam Springs, Ark. to take on John Brown in its last regular season road game of the season on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
