Lincoln, Neb.---The Wayland Baptist track and field teams made the most of their final tuneup before the 2010 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in two weeks, taking out four more school records, automatically qualifying three more individuals, and hitting two new provisional standards at the Nebraska Tune-Up held at the Devaney Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska.

Each of the four new records were broken by the previous record holder. Senior Kydia Echols ran a 1:23.36 to finish second in the 600-yards, eclipsing the mark of 1:23.64 that she ran back on Jan. 16 at Texas Tech. Kirby Dunn, also a senior, was the runner-up in the 1000-meters with a record-setting time of 2:26.66. Dunn set the old mark of 2:26.80 at last year's NAIA Championships.

No stranger to establishing school marks, freshman Kennedy Kithuka already owns three WBU distance records. On Friday, the Kenyan crossed the finish line in first place, bettering the time in the Mile that he ran at Texas Tech in the first meet of the season by .21 with a 4:09.50.

Junior thrower Brandon Mansfield had his best meet of the year with a third place finish in the weight throw. Mansfield, who threw a school-record 56-3 last year in Lubbock, twice recorded throws of over 58' on Friday, finally maxing out at 58-2.50.

The new automatic qualifying standards were met by senior Elva Pedroza, who finished third in the 1000-meters with a time of 3:00.14, sophomore Leandria Lee, who ran a 25.64 in the 200-meters, and sophomore Lee Prevost, who had a time of 22.04, also in the 200-meters.

New provisional times were turned in by freshmen Jennifer Secrest and Fernando Barrio. Secrest ran a 2:20.41 in the 800-meters and Barrio crossed the finish line of the 400-meters in 50.13.

Other top five finishers in Nebraska were Kimberly Smith, who has yet to be beat in an individual race this season, in the 60-meters (7.30); Latanya Nation in the 60-meter hurdles (2nd - 8.90); Nation (4th - 18-7.75) and Bianca Grant (5th - 18-5.25) in the long jump; and both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams.

The women's team of Keliesha Ross, Smith, Lee and Echols improved their time in the 4x4 with a second place finish in a time of 3:50.90. On the men's side, Andre Hamilton, Jerry-Lee Davis, Barrio and Caleb McLean ran a 3:17.20 to finish third. The winning team in both relays was conference-rival Oklahoma Baptist.

Pioneer Coaches Brian Whitlock, Rohan Thompson and Jason Carter will load up their teams on Sunday, Feb. 28 to make the long trip to Johnson City, Tenn. for the national meet, which is being hosted by the Johnson City Convention and Visitors Bureau on March 4-6 at the Memorial Center "Mini Dome." The Pioneer women will be attempting to win their third straight indoor title, while the men will battle for their first title in more than 20 years.
