SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark.---The road isn't often friendly to visiting basketball teams, but it was particularly inhospitable to the Flying Queens of Wayland Baptist on Saturday in their 73-69 overtime loss at John Brown University.

JBU's Ashley Taylor had 24 free throw attempts in the contest, seven more than the entire WBU team, getting 19 of her team-high 24 points from the charity stripe.  For the game, the Lady Golden Eagles (10-18, 6-14) shot 51 times from the line.

Despite the huge disparity in free throws, the Flying Queens had an opportunity to win the contest, thanks in large part to the play of Erika Raymond.  The sophomore forward from Plainview had a career day in the loss, scoring 30 points and tied a WBU record for three-pointers made in a game with seven.  Raymond also handed out five assists and had three steals.

John Brown took a 30-25 lead into the dressing room at the half, and extended the margin to 13 four minutes into the second period.  The WBU women responded with a 15-1 run that began with back-to-back treys by Raymond and ended up with a basket by Alex Williams that put the Queens on top, 47-46.

There were eight ties and ten lead changes over the final ten minutes of play in regulation.  Briana Goss' field goal with 1:22 remaining gave WBU a 63-62 lead, but Taylor hit one of two free throws with 21 seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime.

In OT, JBU scored first to make it 66-63.  Raymond's final three-pointer of the game with just over a minute left put Wayland ahead 69-67, but the Queens got off just one more shot after that, while the Lady Golden Eagles made eight trips to the free throw line.

Williams was the only other WBU player to score in double figures with ten.  A sophomore from Amarillo, Williams also hauled down five rebounds, was credited with two blocks, and recorded four steals.

Wayland shot 43 percent from the field (27-of-63) and was 8-of-16 from beyond the arch, but made good on just 41 percent (7-of-17) of their chances from the free throw line.

The Queens outscored their hosts 24-16 in the paint and converted 24 JBU turnovers into 20 points, but were beaten on the boards, 42-31.

The road trip was the final one of the regular season for WBU, which returns to Hutcherson Center for their last two conference contests.  On Thursday, the Queens host #6 Oklahoma City University, and then they take on Mid-American Christian University on Homecoming Saturday at 2 p.m.
