The Flying Queens let one slip through their fingers on Thursday night against #6 Oklahoma City, falling in overtime 89-78. The WBU women had a 71-65 lead with two-and-half minutes left in the game, but the Stars scored the final six points in regulation, and then outscored the Queens 18-7 in overtime to pick up their 19th straight win.

Wayland sophomore Erika Raymond led all scorers in the game with 23 points, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arch.  Shamon Doss, the Queens' senior post, added 18 and had a game-high nine rebounds.  Alex Williams contributed 10 points, and Jessica Walker posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.

WBU trailed for the majority of the first half, but never got down by more than seven, and that came with just under 11 minutes to go in the opening period.  A 15-7 run over the next four minutes, capped by a basket in the paint by Shamon Doss, gave the Queens a one-point advantage.

A three-pointer three minutes later by Donica Cosby, who led OCU with 17 points, put the visitors back on top by five, but Wayland rallied once more, scoring seven of the last nine points to tie the game at the break, 39-39.

After Cosby converted a turnover into two points in the opening minute of the second half, the Queens came alive.  Raymond started things off with a long three-pointer, Walker followed that up with a lay-up, and then Doss put in six straight to put WBU up by seven, 50-43.

A patented Williams line drive from the baseline gave the Wayland women a nine point lead (61-52) with 11:43 on the clock, but the Stars scored the next seven points to close the gap to two.

That was as close as OCU could get until Chontaye Walter's shot inside with 11 seconds left sent the game into overtime.

Megan Coats scored the first two points of the OT period, but OCU freshman Lauren Gober nailed a three on her team's next possession to put the Stars up for good.

The Queens (16-12, 11-10) hit 41 percent of their shots from the field and were 5-of-10 from the three-point line, but struggled from the line for the second consecutive game, hitting just 7 of their 14 attempts.

OCU (25-3, 20-1) made good on 45 percent of their field goal attempts.  The Stars, who were just 6-of-20 from long distance, outscored WBU 40-36 in the paint, and edged out the Queens 48-46 on the boards.

Both teams had 21 turnovers in the contest.

The WBU women finish up the regular season at home on Saturday against Mid-America Christian University (15-15, 7-14).  Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 2 p.m., an hour later than normal, to better accommodate WBU Homecoming activities.
