The Flying Queens wrapped up their regular season with a 78-53 win over Mid-America Christian University on Saturday afternoon before a Homecoming crowd of over 400 people.
The win gives the WBU women a regular season record of 17-12 and a conference mark of 12-10 headed into next week's conference tournament, which is being played at Sawyer Center on the campus of Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla. The Queens will be the sixth seed and will take on third-seeded Lubbock Christian in the opening round at a time yet to be determined on Thursday.
Erika Raymond continued her torrid pace, knocking down a game-high 20 points. The Plainview sophomore also was the game's leading rebounder with eight.
The contest was extremely sloppy with the teams combining for 64 turnovers, WBU tying a season high with 32. The Queens shot just 36 percent in the first half from the field, but found their touch at the free throw line, hitting all 20 of their attempts.
Things went much better for the Wayland women in the final 20 minutes, as they shot 47 percent and hit 4-of-7 from long distance. The nine-point halftime lead was extended to 21 (60-39) midway through the second half when Shamon Doss hit a basket in the paint after a Lady Evangel turnover.
Three other Queens also hit the double figure mark in scoring. Seniors Jessica Walker and Shamon Doss, playing in front of the home crowd for the final time, had 13 each and Megan Coats came off the bench to score 10. Walker also passed out a team-high four assists and had four steals.
Jessi Howard contributed nine points and six boards, and Doss and Staci Murphree each pulled down seven rebounds.
