Three Pioneer basketball players have received 2009-10 Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition and one other, sophomore Joao "Johnny" Terra earned Academic All-Conference honors, according to information released by the conference office on Monday evening.
Sophomore Bobby Watkins averaged almost 11 points and five-and-half rebounds during the just completed basketball season. The 6-5 center from Amarillo hit 53 percent of his field goal attempts.
The Pioneers' junior point guard, Sanders averaged 36 minutes a game in 2009-10. He was among the conference leaders in both assists with a 4.8 per game average, and steals with a 1.8 per game average. The Las Vegas, Nev. native also put in 7.6 points and hauled down almost four rebounds in 27 games played.
Rishi Kakad, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., was the Pioneers' leading scorer during the season, averaging almost 16 points over the course of 25 games. He ranked among the NAIA leaders in three-pointers made with 77, and in free throw shooting, hitting 87.5 percent of his shots from the charity stripe. The 6-3 guard was second on the team in assists with 57 and recorded 13 steals.
