Wayland Baptist sent both 4x400 relay teams and the men's DMR to the finals in Thursday's first day of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson, City, Tenn.

The men's DMR team of Kirby Dunn, Jarrod Morris, Victory Lemay and Kennedy Kithuka will enter Saturday's finals with the top preliminary time after running a 10:06.1.

The men's 4x400 squad of Jerry-Lee Davis, Andre Hamilton, Fernando Barrio and Caleb McLean won its heat in 3:16.72 to move on to the finals with the day's third-best time.

Keliesha Ross, Leandria Lee, Brittany Walton and Kimberly Smith advanced the women's 4x400 team won their heat with a 3:53.92. The Pioneer women also had the day's third-best time in the event.

No results were posted for the women's 4x800 relay.

The men's 4x800 relay team of Jarrod Morris, Mario Scott, Lucius Lopez and Hildon Boen ran a 7:50.65 but did not advance to the finals. Freshmen Catherine Leubner and Edward Taragon also failed to qualify for the finals in the 5,000 meters. Leubner ran her heat in a time of 18:44.72, while Taragon posted a time of 15:19.28.

Friday's action gets started at 1 p.m. for the Pioneers when junior Latanya Nation competes in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles, and junior Brandon Mansfield goes to work in the preliminary and final rounds of the weight throw.
