PRIMM, Nev. --- The Pioneer men, ranked 24th in the first NAIA Coaches Poll of the season, struggled through some very "undesertlike" conditions on day two of the CBU Spring Break Classic at Primm Valley Golf Club, finishing in seventh place with a three-round total of 914.

Wayland went into the clubhouse on Monday sitting in fourth place just three strokes behind second place Point Loma Nazarene. The Pioneers opened with a 298, and then shot a terrific 287 on the second 18, but Tuesday in the desert was cold and snowy and a 329 was all the Pioneers could manage.

Top-ranked Oklahoma Christian ran away with the tournament championship, finishing with an 871, 17 strokes in front of second place Southern Nazarene University. #3 Holy Names University and #12 California Baptist, the hosts, also finished a head of WBU. Fifth-ranked South Carolina Beaufort was five strokes in back of the Pioneers.

None of the Wayland golfers were among the leaders, although junior Michael Loppnow and sophomore Bradley Sinnitt both shot two-under 70 during the second round. Loppnow finished up with a three round total of 226 (77-70-79). Sophomore Jonathan Elliott wrapped up the tourney with a 228 (71-75-82), and Matthew Webb, a junior college transfer, had a 54-hole total of 230 (73-74-83). Sinnitt ended up with a 232 (77-70-85) and freshman Yohann Bora shot a 236 (78-73-85).

The Pioneers take a week off before traveling to Dallas for the DBU Patriot Invitational on March 29 and 30.
