WICHITA, Kan. --- In a field dominated by NCAA Division I competition, the Wayland Baptist Pioneer golf team finished 10th at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic held at Wichita Country Club.

The Pioneers, ranked 13th in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll, shot rounds of 315 and 301 during Monday's opening two rounds, and then came back on Tuesday with a 309 to complete the tournament five strokes in front of 11th place Northeastern State University.

The tourney hosts, Wichita State University, shot a three-round total of 877 to run away with the team title.  The University of Texas-Arlington was 12 strokes back in second place.   The NAIA's top-ranked Oklahoma City Stars were one shot behind UTA in third place. 

The Pioneers' Matthew Webb finished among the leaders in a four-way tie for tenth place.  Webb began the 54-hole tourney with a 76, came back with a second round total of 72, one-over par, and shot a 75 on the final 18.

Conditions included a 30 mph south wind with 80-degree temperatures on the par-71, 6,814-yard course.

Freshman Yohann Vora was among the top 25 after shooting an even par 71 during Monday's afternoon round.  Vora wound up at 150, tied for 24th place, sandwiching a 79 and a 77 around the par. 

Sophomore Bradley Sinnett shot a 237 (82-80-75), senior Michael Loppnow finished one stroke back with a 238 (78-78-82), and Jimmy Lu, a freshman, wound up at 247 (84-81-82).  

The Pioneers will finish up 2010 regular season on April 19 and 20 at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships to be held in Oklahoma City.
