The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team will have at least ten new faces when the Fall 2010 season gets underway in just over four months time. Pioneer head coach Shiloh Posey and his staff have been busy during the off-season trying to add more talent to their team which finished a disappointing 3-13 last fall.
The recent signees include seven high school seniors and three transfers. Two of the ten are goalkeepers, four are defenders, three are midfielders, and one is a forward.
Three of the new players hail from the Wichita Falls area and competed against each other during district action. Goalkeeper Kathleen Stewart of Wichita Falls Rider High School was a major part of the first three Rider teams to make it to the state tournament and earned 2010 Co-MVP honors in District 9-4A.
Courtney Cox, a defender from Wichita Falls High, was a second team All-District 9-4A honoree, while Burkburnett High's Emarie Holland was a first team All-District selection at the forward position.
Two seniors from Lubbock High School have also signed to play with the Pioneers. Goalkeeper Alyssa Guerra was an honorable mention All-District 2-5A honoree, while Adela Lucero was a defender for the
Westerners. One other area standout of note that intends to join the WBU soccer program is Borger High School defender Alexis Mckee.
Forward/midfielder Corita Kraemer of Westminster Christian Academy in Opelousas, La. has also agreed to join the Pioneer team in August.
The new transfers expected for the fall semester are midfielder/defender Vivian Corrales from the University of Texas-El Paso, defender Alejandra Cano of El Paso Community College, and midfielder Laura Severance of Western Texas College, who is originally from Brownwood, Tex.
