The Wayland Baptist women's golf team has some work to do in tomorrow's final round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship. The Pioneers are 12 strokes in back of third place Oklahoma City after Monday's first round.
WBU combined to shoot a 332 on the first 18 holes at River Oaks Country Club. Southern Nazarene University, the #11 team in last week's NAIA poll, sits in first place with a 314. No. 9 Lubbock Christian is second, one stroke back, and the top-ranked Stars are at 320.
Sophomore Charlotte Guilleux, one of the early favorites for the individual title, struggled on the front nine, scoring a 44, but came back with a 38 to finish with an 82. Teammate Anye Magombe is tied with Guilleux in 13th place. Magombe opened with a 39 on the first half of the course, and then followed up with a 43.
The three Pioneer freshmen are among the top 25. Nathalia Valencia is alone in 17th place at 83 (42-41). Jennifer Perry shot an 85 (42-43) and is tied for 20th place, and Krisann Earp is tied for 24th after finishing up with an 88 (42-46).
The final round of the championship tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 on Tuesday morning.
