The final regular season series of the season gets underway tonight when the Pioneers take on #6 Lubbock Christian University at Hays Field in Lubbock at 6:30 p.m.

Live Video of all three games this week will be available on the internet, as will Live Audio and Live Stats. The game tonight will also be broadcast by LCU on radio station 1340 AM and on KJAK 92.7 FM on Thursday. LCU will provide the video and statistical coverage tonight and Friday. WBU will take care of things on Thursday.

Coach Brad Bass' crew, 28-18 overall and 16-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, will be attempting to hold on to third place in the conference standings. The Pioneers are assured of a berth in next week's SAC Championship Baseball Tournament, but must put on a strong performance in the upcoming games to have a shot at a bid in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round which is scheduled for May 18-21.

The Pioneers are seventh in NAIA home runs per game (1.6) and ninth in slugging (.586).  Individually, Kevin Hennessey is the NAIA leader in home runs per game (0.47) and is third in slugging percentage (.959).  The junior third baseman/designated hitter is hitting a team-high .428 with 63 RBI.  His 21 long balls are just two short of the school record set last year by Franky Busani.  Junior shortstop Eddie Allen is hitting .407 and is third in conference doubles (21).

On the mound, senior Todd Weldon has a record of 8-4 with a 4.44 ERA. He is the third in the NAIA and tops in the SAC in strikeouts with 95 in 75 innings of work, while teammate Marcus Limon (7-4, 5.31 ERA) is the NAIA leader in strikeouts per nine innings (12.69) with 86 K's in 61 innings of work.

LCU (38-10, 22-4) is coming into the series with a 13-game win streak. The Chaps are ranked first in the NAIA in slugging percentage (.664) and are second in home runs per game (1.9), runs scored per game (9.3) and batting average (.378). Junior catcher Joe Staley is the team leader in hitting with a batting average of .452 and 62 RBI. Second baseman Richard Bohlken, a sophomore, and senior firstman Doug Kroll are the power leaders with 20 and 19 home runs respectively.

On the mound, the Chaps are led by senior Frank Corolla, a transfer from the University of Houston, who is 10-1 on the season with a 5.50 ERA. Junior transfer Paul Conzalez, from Texas Tech, is 6-1 with a 5.43 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 66.1 innings of work.

Bullpen ace Hunter Scott, a senior transfer from Houston Baptist, has five saves and a 9-3 record with a 5.76 ERA.

The Chaps, which leads the overall series with Wayland, 64-16, won the regular season series last year over the Pioneers, 2-1, and took two of the three meetings during the post-season.
