LEVELLAND, Texas --- A limited number of Wayland athletes competed at the South Plains Invitational on Saturday, but among those that competed, one new automatic qualifying standard was met, two was improved upon, and there were two first place finishes.

Sophomore Lee Prevost ran a 21.72 in the 200-meters to automatically qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships later on this month in Marion, Ind. Teammate Jerry-Lee Davis finshed just ahead of Prevost in the race to place fourth in a time of 21.47, bettering his previous mark, and Leandria Lee ran a 24.77 in the women's 200 for a 5th place finish and an improvement on her previous qualifying time.

First place finishes were turned in by Kennedy Kithuka in the 1500-meters and Jarrod Morris in the 800-meters. Kithuka ran a provisional time of 3:57.46 and crossed the finish line just in front of teammates Hildon Boen (3:59.0) and Edward Taragon (4:01.58).

In the 800-meters, Morris ran a 1:55.54 to finish just a head of Mario Scott at 1:57.72.

Other automatic qualifying marks were turned in by Bianca Grant in the long jump (5.89m - 19-04.00); Myran Roundtree in the triple jump (14.51m - 47-07.25) and in the 100-meters (10.74); and Lee in the 100-meters (12.25).

Junior Caleb McLean ran a provisional qualifying time of 48.75 to finish third in the 400-meters.

The Pioneers will have one more chance to compete before the national meet on Saturday when they travel to Shawnee, Okla. to take part in the OBU Last Chance Meet.
