Kirstie Edwards, a senior from Lubbock Cooper High School, has signed a letter of intent to join the Flying Queens basketball program. The 6'1 forward is a two-time All-State honoree and the niece of former Flying Queen NAIA All-American Kristina Edwards.
"We are excited about the addition of Kirstie Edwards to our program," said Tory Bryant, Head Coach of the Queens. "She comes from a good basketball program and has had an outstanding career. She is a tremendous athlete that will provide a defensive and shot blocking presence in the paint.
"Kirstie has won a lot of basketball games over her high school career, and is a good student and comes from a basketball family."
Edwards averaged 8.6 points and 9.3 rebounds during her senior season, and blocked almost six shots a game. She holds Lady Pirate career records in both blocked shots and rebounds, and helped lead Cooper to the playoffs in each of her three seasons on the varsity, reaching the Class 3A Regional finals twice.
The District 1-3A Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior, Edwards was also a 1st team member of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal's Class 3A All-South Plains team.
