The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that four Wayland Baptist University baseball players have been named 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar Athletes.

A native of Allen, Tex., Bobby Curtis is a two-time Scholar Athlete and a four-year lettermen.  He saw action at both first and third base for the Pioneers in 2010, and graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

Russell Daniel, whose hometown is Hillsboro, Tex., had a .273 batting average in 18 games for Wayland.  The senior catcher earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree last month.

The Pioneer leader in mound appearances in 2010, Todd Weldon went 8-5 with a 5.13 ERA.  He pitched 80-2/3 innings with 99 strikeouts.  The righthander from Carlsbad, NM is a pre-physical therapy major.

Eddie Allen led Wayland with 58 runs scored and 23 doubles this past year.  A junior shortstop from Mesquite, Tex. majoring in Business Administration, he hit .397 and was successful on 17 of his 18 stolen base attempts.  

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, have achieved junior academic status to qualify, and been in attendance at the nominating institution two full academic years as a non-transfer student or a minimum of one full academic year as a transfer student..
