Wayland Baptist third baseman Kevin Hennessey has been named to the 2010 NAIA All-American Second Team. The junior from Chandler, Ariz. is the NAIA leader in home runs per game (0.48) and slugging percentage (.958).
Hennessey was the Pioneer leader at the plate with a .428 batting average and 70 RBI in 2010. He broke the WBU home run record with 24 home runs, despite playing in eight fewer games than Franky Busani did when he set the previous mark of 23 in 2009. Hennessey also had 16 doubles on the season and scored 54 runs.
The NAIA's Rawlings Player of the Year in 2010 was Matt Greener, a third baseman from #2 Cumberland University who has 26 doubles, 27 home runs and 101 RBI going into Thursday night's NAIA title game.
The All-America Teams consist of 17 members on the First Team, 17 on the Second Team and an Honorable Mention Team, which is limited to 34 players. Three representatives of the Sooner Athletic Conference were selected to the First Team: Lubbock Christian catcher Joe Staley, the SAC player of the Year; and Southern Nazarene's Nick Spears at shortstop and Shane Stoner at first base. Hennessey was the only conference member to earn Second Team recognition.
