Former Wayland Baptist Pioneer pitcher Todd Weldon is doing extremely well so far in his young professional baseball career. Weldon, a 27th round draft choice of the New York Mets this past June, is currently playing with the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets in the Rookie Appalachian League.

The hard-throwing right-hander started in 30 games in his two year career at Wayland, but is working as the bullpen ace for his new team. Weldon has a team-high six saves and a miniscule 1.02 ERA. He has thrown 17-2/3 innings in 14 appearances this summer, allowing just two earned runs. Opponents are hitting just .182 against the Carlsbad, NM native and he has struck out 13 batters while issuing six walks.

The Kingsport Mets are 23-23 on the season and in third place in the Appalachian West standings.
