Oklahoma City, Okla.---The Pioneer volleyball team won its opening match at the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, sweeping #5-seed Oklahoma Baptist in three sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18. The Pioneers advance to the semi-final round at 4 this afternoon against top-seeded Lubbock Christian.

Despite the early hour, the WBU women jumped out quickly, grabbing a 10-0 lead in the first set over the Lady Bison. Kimberli Harger and Jennifer Wyatt had two kills each and Desiree Luevano put down two service aces during the opening run.

The second set was much closer. OBU grabbed its first and only lead of the match at 6-5, but the Pioneers ran off seven straight points, including two kills each by Luevano and Anika Voigt. The Lady Bison eventually closed the gap back to two, 20-18, but committed five straight errors to give Wayland the decision.

Harger led the Pioneers with 10 kills, three aces and two blocks. The freshman from Lubbock did not commit an error and had a .455 attack percentage. Voigt contributed eight kills and 27 assists, while Luevano and Bethany Lewis were the defensive leaders, recording 14 and 12 digs respectively.
