Oklahoma City, Okla.---Wayland Baptist's freshman Kimberli Harger broke a 13-13 tie with back-to-back kills in the deciding set of the Sooner Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament's championship match to give the Pioneers a 3-2 victory over John Brown University Friday evening at Abe Lemons Arena.

The 26-7 Pioneers will play Lubbock Christian University, winner of the SAC regular season, on Saturday at 3 p.m. to determine who will represent the conference in the Opening Round of the NAIA Championship Tournament.

Ironically the fifth set was the most competitive set of the match. John Brown played almost flawless volleyball in the first, easily winning 25-15. The Pioneers rallied in the second, 25-18. The score in the third was a little closer with the Golden Eagles taking the 25-20 decision, but WBU dominated in the fourth 25-11.

The Golden Eagles took an early 4-3 lead in the finale, but the Wayland women stormed back with six straight points to pull in front 9-4.

After a timeout, Amber Wilson put down three kills in a 6-1 JBU run that tied it at 10. The Pioneers took the lead back on two Golden Eagle errors and a Harger kill, but John Brown knotted it at 13 on two service aces by Wilson and a WBU ballhandling error before Harger ended it.

Harger led the Pioneers with 13 kills, 18 digs, and two blocks. Jennifer Wyatt, who earned All-Tournament honors along with Audrey Hemminger, had 11 kills and four blocks, and Sabrina Davis came off the bench to contribute 10 kills with a hitting percentage of .364. Bethany Lewis led the WBU defense with a team-high 24 digs.

Tournament MVP Anika Voigt dished out 46 assists, had 20 digs and a team-high four blocks.

John Brown, which concluded its season with a record of 21-11, was led by Kirsten Lee with 15 kills. Laurae Marty added 12, and Wilson put down 10 and had a team-high five blocks.
