Wayland Baptist University Pioneer volleyball players Hailey Clark and Bethany Lewis have been named as Daktronics-NAIA Volleyball Scholar Athletes for the second straight year.

Clark, a senior right-side hitter from Lubbock, was an honorable mention All-Sooner Athletic Conference selection in 2008. A graduate of Monterey High School and a four-year starter for the Pioneers, she led the Pioneers in service aces this past year. A geology and history major with a 3.89 GPA, Clark finished her career at Wayland #5 in all-time block assists. .

A senior defensive specialist from Borger majoring in biology, Lewis, a biology major, was also recently named to ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District 2nd team. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during her four years at Wayland. Lewis, who played the majority of the 2008 season with a shoulder injury requiring off-season surgery, holds the school record for digs in a match.

The 2008 Pioneers had their most successful season in more than a decade, closing out the year with record 26-8, the second most wins in the history of the program, and winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time ever.

All-American Scholar Athletes must be nominated by their head coach, be a junior or above in academic standing, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and meet certain statistical criteria.
