CLAREMORE, Okla. --- After the first seven nonconference games of the season, the Wayland Baptist women's soccer team had lost just twice, both times by identical 1-0 scores.  On Thursday evening at Rogers State University, the Pioneers dropped yet another 1-0 decision, this time to a Sooner Athletic Conference opponent.

RSU's Tara Garrett took a pass from Jordan Beasley and put it past WBU's Courtney Chambers and into the back of the net to provide the only offensive fireworks of the game.  The goal came in the 14th minute of play.

Up to that point, both teams had just one shot each.  Wayland forward Jordan James was robbed of a chance at the 10:35 mark when Rogers goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin made a diving save.  Just seconds after the RSU goal, McMullin made another save of a James shot near post.

The opening half wrapped up with the Hillcats taking a total of five shots to four by the Pioneers.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the second half.  The home team had the edge on shots, 7-5 in the final period, but both goalies came up big with McMullin registering one more save 5, than Chambers, who had four in the half.

The Pioneers are now 5-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.  The Lady Cats improved to 4-1-2 and 1-0.

The WBU women will attempt to get their offense back on track on Saturday at John Brown University.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
