Robert Davenport, the tenth head coach in Wayland men's basketball history, is beginning his fourth year as the leader of the Pioneers.

In his second season, the former head man at the University of Texas-Pan American led the Pioneers to a 20-13 record, a Top 25 ranking, and a spot in the NAIA Men's Championship Tournament, where the team made it into the Sweet 16. Three Pioneers were named NAIA Scholar Athletes, and senior Danny Storey was named 2nd team All-American and broke the WBU career record in rebounding. Storey also became just the second player in WBU history to register 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

A native of Oklahoma and a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Coach Davenport has over 15 years of coaching experience, including five years as an assistant coach at UT-Pan American before taking over the reigns in 2004. During his time at UTPA, which competes as a NCAA Division I Independent, the program graduated 24 out of 28 seniors and accumulated 80 victories. The 2000-01 team ranked 11th among all NCAA D-I teams in scoring and 23rd in field goal percentage. A member of the NCAA Division I Assistant Coach's Committee from 2001-2004, he recruited UTPA's first All-American in 20 years, nine All-Independent players and a pair of Independent Defensive Player of the Year award winners.

Prior to his time in the Rio Grande Valley, Coach Davenport spent two years as head coach at LeTourneau University and Missouri Baptist University. At Missouri Baptist, Davenport guided his team to a 15-18 record and a second place finish in the American Midwest Conference Tournament in 1999. The 15 wins were more than the previous two years combined. He recruited two All-AMC players, four All-Academic AMC players, the MBU all-time single-season assist leader, and a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. He also served on the NAIA National Tournament Redcoat Committee for two years.

A member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the past 15 years, Coach Davenport was an assistant coach from 1993 to 1997 at Oklahoma Baptist University, where he recruited four NAIA All-Americans and two NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes. OBU won two SAC crowns and qualified for the NAIA national tournament each of those years, finishing second in 1997.

A collegiate player for the Bison his final two years of eligiblity, Coach Davenport began his playing career at Oklahoma Christian University. He also played one summer for Athletes In Action in South America.  He received his bachelor's degree in public relations from OBU in 1988, and earned a master's degree in secondary education from East Central University in 1996.

Davenport and his wife, LeAnna, have been married for more than 20 years and have two children; Morgan and Reid.

Chris Paddock is in his second season as an assistant coach of the Pioneer basketball program.

A high school All-American at Abilene Cooper High School, Coach Paddock, who stands seven feet tall, went on to play at Blinn Junior College and then spent two seasons at the University of New Mexico where he helped lead the Lobos to two NCAA National Tournament bids and the 1996 Western Athletic Conference Championship.

Following his graduation from UNM, Coach Paddock spent one year at Albuquerque's Sandia High School where he was a boy's varsity assistant coach. He then moved to Amarillo, Tex. where he was boys coach at Fannin Middle School before moving on to Caprock High School as assistant boys coach.

Coach Paddock took over the struggling varsity girl's basketball program at Caprock High in 2004. The Lady Horns won just two games in his first year, but improved steadily, just missing the playoffs during the 2006-07 season with a 16-16 record. The 2007-08 CHS girls did reach the playoffs, bowing out in the bidistrict round to Lubbock Estacado High School.

Coach Paddock and his wife, Misty, have a daughter, Hadley, who is three.

Humberto Gonzalez came to Wayland in 2008 from Arizona Western College where he served as assistant men's basketball coach. During his four seasons on the bench at AZ Western, the Matadors accumulated a record of 112-20, won three straight Region I titles, two Conference Championships, made two NJCAA National Tournament appearances, and achieved a #1 national ranking.

His duties at AWC included coordinating the preseason strength and conditioning program, working with individual player development, recruiting, and serving as Assistant Basketball Camp Director. His recruiting relationships on the West Coast during his time there have helped bring an influx of new talent to the Wayland squad this year.

At WBU, Coach Gonzalez is responsible for scouting opponents, recruiting (mainly West Coast), strength and conditioning and guard development.

A native of Yuma/Somerton, Coach Gonzalez was an active member of the Yuma athletic community. He founded the Yuma Blaze High School traveling all-star basketball team in 2003 to enhance the visibility and experience for Yuma basketball players.

Coach Gonzalez just returned from his spending his seventh summer in Mexico, where he coaches camps and is a guest speaker at various coaches clinics.
