Athletics Mission Statement

WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC'S MISSION STATEMENT

As a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference and a Division I member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Wayland is unconditionally committed to the basic principles and objectives established by these organizations. Dedicated to the pursuit of high-level athletic goals for true student-athletes, the University prides itself on its dual goal of striving for excellence in both the academic program and the athletic arena, and refuses to use the rigors of either as an excuse for less than high quality performance in the other.

The institution offers an intercollegiate athletic program that is compatible with its overall philosophy and purpose: a program that strives for national recognition while recognizing the dignity, freedom, worth, and potential of each student-athlete. The program seeks to attract students from diverse backgrounds, and strives to recruit and retain highly qualified coaches who are dedicated to all phases of the University's mission.
