Humberto Gonzalez comes to Wayland from Arizona Western College where he served as assistant men's basketball coach. During his three seasons on the bench at AZ Western, the Matadors won three straight Region I titles. His duties at AWC included coordinating the preseason strength and conditioning program, working with individual player development, recruiting and Assistant Basketball Camp Director.

A native of Yuma/Somerton, Coach Gonzalez helped lead AWC to three straight Region I titles. An active member of the Yuma athletic community, he founded the Yuma Blaze High School traveling all-star basketball team in 2003 to enhance the visibility and experience for Yuma basketball players. He spends his summers working numerous basketball camps in Mexico through the NIKE organization.
