ANTHEM, Ariz. --- Wayland Baptist baseball coach was well aware that his early season trip to Arizona would be a challenging one for his young team.  All four of the teams the Pioneers faced in the Arizona Desert Classic received votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll, and two of those, #11 Lewis & Clark State and #17 Fresno Pacific, were ranked among the top 20 teams.

On Saturday afternoon, Bass' squad, 16 of which are underclassmen, dropped its fourth game in the desert, 15-8 to Point Loma Nazarene University.

ANTHEM, Ariz. --- Four Pioneer pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters from #11 Lewis & Clark State College on Friday.  Unfortunately the LCSC hitters also got 12 hits, including six home runs, in the 16-5 Warrior victory.

ANTHEM, Ariz. --- The Wayland Baptist baseball team dropped a pair of games at the Arizona Desert Classic on Thursday.   The Pioneers lost a 7-2 decision to College of Idaho in the first game, and then fell 9-2 to #17 Fresno Pacific.

The Pioneer baseball team continued their winning ways on Saturday with their second doubleheader sweep of the University of the Southwest in as many days.   The first road game of the year saw the Pioneers take their third straight to open the young season, and this one came by a final score of 3-1.  WBU wrapped up the final game of the series, 6-3.

Good pitching and timely hitting led the Wayland Baptist baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over the University of the Southwest at Wilder Field on a brisk opening day of baseball on Friday.  The Pioneers picked up a 6-2 win in the first game and capped off the day with freshman Bernie Rosario's walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.
