Five members of the Wayland volleyball team have been named to the 2009 All-Sooner Athletic Conference team. Anika Voigt, Jennifer Wyatt, Kimberli Harger, Desiree Luevano and Audrey Hemminger were recognized during ceremonies on Friday at the SAC Championship Tournament.

The 2009 volleyball season came to an end on Friday for the Wayland Baptist Pioneers, one game short of the championship game of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. The Pioneers opened the tourney with a thrilling five-set win over Southern Nazarene University (24-26, 26-24, 27-25, 22-25, 15-7) but fell in the final match of the day to Lubbock Christian in three straight sets.

The WBU netters, who opened the season with a school record 11 consecutive victories, finish up the year with an overall record of 21-9.

The #18 Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps defeated the Pioneers in a thrilling three-set match on Tuesday evening before 463 fans at Hutcherson Center. Every point was well-earned by both teams in the 25-23, 25-20, 29-27 LCU victory.

The Wayland volleyball team made quick work of St. Gregory's University on Saturday afternoon winning in three sets, 25-9, 25-9, 25-11. The victory was the 20th of the season for the Pioneers, who are now 20-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
