Bethany, Okla. --- The 2009-10 basketball season came to an end for the Flying Queens in the opening game of the Sooner Athletic Conference this morning as the WBU women fell in a close game to Lubbock Christian, 68-64. The Queens finish the season with a record of 17-13. The Lady Chaps (19-10) advance to the next round against the winner of the Oklahoma City/Southern Nazarene game later this afternoon.

The Wayland Baptist Flying Queens and Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps traveled east on Interstate 40 to Bethany, Okla. today [Wednesday] so that they can play each other in the opening game of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

The 17-12 Queens are the sixth seed in the tourney, finishing the conference season with a 12-10 record, while the Lady Chaps are 18-10 overall and wrapped up the SAC's third seed with a 13-9 SAC mark.

All of the Queens' tournament games can be heard on Wayland radio station KWLD 91.5 or on the internet with Tom Hall calling the action.

Five members of the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens were named to the 2009-10 All-Sooner Athletic Conference team according to information released late Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Erika Raymond was awarded 2nd team honors, senior Shamon Doss was selected to the 3rd team, and two others, seniors Jessica Walker and Edite Kresa, earned honorable mention recognition. In addition, Kresa and junior Jessi Howard were chosen as Academic All-Conference honorees.

The 6th-seeded Flying Queens will take on #3 seed Lubbock Christian University in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at 9 am on Thursday, March 4th. The game will open the tournament, which is being held at Southern Nazarene's Sawyer Center in Bethany, Okla.
